A real time 3D scene I made for benchmarking software called 3DMark, made by a company called Futuremark. I worked on this with a very talented colleague Janne Pulkkinen.
The idea of the scene was to have a lot of geometry with realtime lights and shadows to stress the graphics card rendering capabilities. The assets and scenes were done in Softimage and the rendering engine was Futuremark’s proprietary in-house engine.
The soundtrack was made by Markus “Captain” Kaarlonen. We talked about the mood of the animation and I suggested we should try something Thomas Newman like. I think Captain really captured the emotion.
First test render for the spruce tree branches. A single high detail branch was used near the camera to show the detail.
The branches are built from a 10 centimeter piece off a branch and just copied over and over again to make a big branch. The needles have only one small texture with transparency scanned from real spruce branch.
